June has just kicked off here in Illinois and so has the good weather, in which my plants are smiling.
In my last post, I talked about how we were preparing our garden in the spring for the coming season of growing our own vegetables and herbs, right here, smack bang in McHenry town. Our goal is to have food growing throughout the spring, summer, and fall, even right into winter.
So far, everything is looking fantastic and our fruit guilt and surrounding plants beginning to take shape, and even our peach tree have begun to fruit, for its first time in its 3-year-old life.
So far, I have planted kale, cabbage, rhubarb, broccoli, green beans, peas, onions, potatoes, butternut squash, cucumbers, tomatoes, peppers, cayenne peppers, eggplant, celery, spinach, arugula, asparagus, carrots, baby carrots, and every type of herb you can name.
Seeds and seedlings are planted, we have sprouted already, and my potatoes are shooting out like a green volcano.
Myself and my 8-year-old daughter also planted a memorial flower garden and bed for her grandfather, Ron Rieger, who passed away a couple of months ago. And we have also added a lilac bush to our garden too. So, it is starting to take shape.
Check back soon as I will keep posting on my progress here in McHenry Illinois on my trials and errors and to show that all of us with a garden space can grow organic food for our families and for good health too. I also hope to use some of my bounty towards my personal chef business and clients.
Let me know in the comments if you do the same and any tips would be welcomed.
Happy spring, happy planting.
