Growing Organic Vegtables in Your Back Garden McHenry Illinois
This is my third year growing vegetables, flowers, and herbs in my back garden here in McHenry Illinois.
It is also the third year since the planting of our peach tree and in May it flowered, and boy, it produced delicious massive peaches, so many I had to give some to the neighbors.
This year I started my seeds early in January/February in the basement under grow lights. This worked out pretty well and I plan to double this in 2023.
So, it has been a fantastic growing season/s. The weather has been perfect and helped a lot.
I planted early spring, Spinach, Arugula, an assortment of lettuce, and herbs, using homemade compost and soil. I had brilliant results and bucketloads of leaves.
In late May, I planted 3 different eggplant, peppers, zucchini, 6 different tomatoes, 4 varieties of beans, 2 of cucumbers, 2 of potatoes, cabbage, and various herbs.
You can see from the photos below I had amazing results.
I've now planted some more leaves, arugula, spinach, and herbs for the fall as well as more potatoes.
So, it is relatively easy to grow vegetables right from your own back garden, regardless of space. Just takes a solid plan, decent seeds, and good soil.
I use all this produce for my Odes of Food personal chef business here in McHenry as well of course, for my own family, friends, and neighbors.
Any questions, leave in the comments.
Happy growing.
